Any Smartphone on Android Can Be Tracked Remotely. How?

The Android operating system is installed on 3/4 of all mobile devices on the market, that is, almost every one. All phone manufacturers except Apple use it, and that list includes LG, Xiaomi, Samsung, HTC, Sony, Meizu, Huawei, Oppo and many other brands. As it turned out, any smartphone based on this OS from Google can be remotely tracked, and it is already known exactly how this can be done, experts from the Nightwatch Cybersecurity company reported.

Experts say about OS Android

According to experts from the company, which focused in computer security, all versions of the OS Android has a critical vulnerability, which can be used to track the location of any phone. Experts believe that this gap has been used for many years by law enforcement agencies and hackers, who make a lot of money by searching for any people in the world.

Due to the vulnerability, hackers can use Wi-Fi networks to determine the location of a mobile device. To do this, they need to create a small piece of software and then get the victim to install it. This software can be embedded into a program or a game, and no one will ever know if it’s there or not, because no antivirus reacts to it, and there’s a reason for that. The fact is that the security hole allows you to bypass the standard system of protection of the OS.

If in the usual case the smartphone owner has to give the program permission, for example, to send SMS messages and access geolocation, then the breach detected by experts allows this not to do, that is, it starts to work fully even without permissions. As a result, intruders get their hands on the Wi-Fi network name, a unique BSSID (Basic Service Set Identifiers), IP address, DNS server, MAC address and coordinates obtained via GPS.

Vulnerability is present in all builds of Android operating system, and in Pie, which is installed on less than 0.1% of all phones in the world, this gap is partially closed, so most of the functionality will not work. Google has already been notified about the security problem, so the patch should be out in the next few weeks. Until then, there is no guarantee that your phone is not being tracked by someone.
